Description

North Norfolk Beach Runners are excited to host the 36th edition of the Worstead 5 mile race!  The Worstead ‘5’ is a popular event suitable for all, and set on undulating local roads.

The race is the pre-cursor to the Worstead Festival taking place over the weekend, and will provide a fesitval vibe for spectators while the race takes place, and all those competing after the race with street food vendors and celebratory beers for those PB’s!  You can check out the Sportlink Highlights from the 2023 race to give you an idea of the event.

This year we’re introducing a new Mixed Team prize for the first team home.  It’s going to be calculated on Club Runners with the first two males and first two females to count based on cumulative time!

The race starts at 7pm in the Village square taking you out on country lanes for a mile before turning towards Sloley where you complete a loop before heading back to the Village square for cheering crowds and the finish line.  You can also expect good support from the local residents from the surrounding area on your way around the course.  Please be aware that although the race follows quiet roads, they are not closed to traffic.

This event is run under UK Athletics Rules.  The course has been measured and certified and will be UK Athletics Licensed.

Gazebos: We welcome Clubs to bring their gazebos to set up in the Festival arena to use as a space to gather and store kit.

Entry Price: £18 affiliated (£19.20 inc. Admin fee); £20 unaffiliated (£21.20 inc. Admin fee).

Minimum age: 15 years on race day.

Prizes: Cash prizes for the first three males and first three females (£50 for first, £30 for second, £20 for third).

Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third in Age Categories: Junior (U18), Senior, 40 through to 75+ in 5 year age bands.

Mixed Team prize (first team only, for Registered Clubs) consisting of first two males and first two females on cumulative time.

All finishers will receive a medal.

Race Numbers: Will be posted in advance of the race.

Car Parking: Free car parking is available.  Use Post Code NR28 9SD, and then follow the signs on the day.  Please consider car sharing where possible.

Safety: Unfortunately no pets, or pushchairs.  First Aid/Medical cover will be present at the start/finish of the race.  No headphones will be permitted for this race (this includes bone conduction headphones).  As permitted under England Athletics rules, anyone wearing headphones will be disqualified.  Whilst approved by England Athletics, bone conduction headphones will not be allowed as we want to ensure the safety of all runners and the public racing on roads which are not closed.

If you’re looking to join a club and enjoyed our friendly faces, we train at Cromer on Tuesday and Thursday at 1830.  Come give us a try with up to three free taster sessions!
